Sometimes, it can be challenging to come up with engaging activities using text-based media. Text media refers to any form of communication that relies primarily on written or typed language, such as books, articles, emails, chat messages, and social media posts. While these forms of media can be incredibly useful for language learners, it can be tedious to create activities that keep students engaged.
Here is an engaging task for you:
select a text medium of your choice and design an English language activity for your students. Remember to limit your use of the original text to no more than 10-15% at a time, or provide a full reconstruction of the text to avoid violating CC licenses.
I encourage you to share your activity here and on Canvas to inspire others and foster a collaborative learning community.
The example mentioned earlier drew inspiration from an article titled “The sudden dawn of the deinfluencer: can online superstars stop us shopping” published in The Guardian.
The example involves creating a summary of the article, with some gaps left for your English language students to fill in. This can be a useful way to test their comprehension and vocabulary skills.
